About Us

Plungees is owned and operated by Linda Rudnick, who found her entrepreneurial spirit in her mid-40's. Linda is a former banker and a mom of two (three if you include Plungees as her third baby). One day in 1999, she viewed an Oprah show on etiquette. An etiquette expert was asked what to do if you are a guest in someone's home and you clog the toilet.

Linda thought about the question and felt that there would be no problem if there were a plunger next to the toilet. But people don't put plungers out. Why? Because they're so ugly. What if they weren't ugly? What if they were beautiful, or just plain fun? Then she thought about the problem of what to do with a used, wet plunger. The answer? A coordinating container to match the beautiful/fun plunger. Linda started designing what they might look like, and from that germ of an idea, Plungees were born.

Plungees were introduced at a trade show in July, 2000 and first shipments to retail outlets were made in September, 2000. Since that time, thousands of Plungees have arrived at the doorsteps of homes across America, solving the problem of how to ensure that a plunger is available when and where you (and your guests) need it, while actually enhancing the decor of your bathroom. Our goal is to have Plungees in every home in America, so no one will ever have to face the problem of what to do when you clog the toilet and see the water rising!

We, at Plungees, know that pretty toilet plungers are not solving the world's problems. But in our own way, Plungees contributes to the community and humanity by the way we conduct our business. We strongly believe in providing jobs to Americans, and so Plungees are made in America. We believe in women being able to have the opportunity to balance work and home, and being there to raise their children, and so, for example, we have women who are at home sewing the flags for the Golf Plungees while their kids nap. We believe in women being able to express their art, and so we give artistic freedom to our artists to design and fabricate unique custom Plungees, and pay them fairly for their extraordinary talents. We believe in supporting local businesses, which in turn employ local men and women, and so we place purchase orders with companies in our locale whenever possible. We believe in helping the "unemployable" find work and opportunity, and so we employ first time carpenters who have made it through woodworking training school, and we use centers who assist people with disabilities to live and work successfully in the community to assist in our production. We believe in providing work to retirees to help them feel the joy of contributing their skills even after retirement. And overall, we believe in providing a high quality product and unimpeachable service, and we do that by following the age old adage of treating others the way we would want to be treated.

So thank you for purchasing Plungees. Bet you didn't know you were helping solve the world's problems when you did!
